Analog Astronaut Training Center (AATC) is a private company dedicated to advancing human spaceflight scientific studies. Founded by two former European Space Agency (ESA) professionals, an engineer and a scientist, AATC specializes in human physiology research and operational training for scientists, engineers, and astronaut candidates. Established in 2018, the company operates a laboratory in the southern part of Poland, simulating space environments for scientific experiments, with a particular focus on space biology and medicine. In addition to scientific projects, AATC offers educational programs, including rocket workshops, stratospheric missions, and analog simulations of lunar and Martian environments.

The Analog Astronaut Training Center (AATC), founded in 2016 by former European Space Agency professionals Matt Harasymczuk and Dr Agata Kołodziejczyk, is a private institution specializing in human spaceflight scientific studies and astronaut training.
Over the years, AATC has expanded its footprint in the field. In 2018, it established a laboratory in southern Poland to simulate space conditions for experiments in space biology and medicine.
AATC offers diverse educational programs for various age groups, emphasizing STEM disciplines and essential life skills. The center also conducts analog simulations, replicating lunar, Martian, and space mission environments.
As of 2023, AATC has conducted 60 analog missions and trained and certified 243 analog astronauts, making it a prominent player in the global analog expedition landscape.
Beyond training, AATC actively supports participants in their space careers, facilitating publications, fostering global connections, and involving them in ongoing space projects.
Facility and equipment[edit | edit source]
AATC operates a specialized habitat designed for long-term isolated crewed projects. This habitat serves as a bioastronautics research laboratory and is equipped with various features, including

- Remotely controlled sunlight simulator lighting system
- Confined space
- Access to healthy mineral water
- Healthy atmosphere
- Safe environment
- Social isolation (limited to six people)
- Multiple communication channels, including a protected LoRaWAN network
- Two laboratories: clean lab and geolab for critical experiments
- Smart sensors and monitoring systems integrated with mission control
- Vertigo training equipment, gyroscopes, and telemedical devices
AATC continuously expands and upgrades its habitat infrastructure to meet the increasing demand for high-quality training, education, and scientific research.

AATC collaborates with research centers, universities, space agencies, and private space companies to develop and conduct multidisciplinary scientific projects during analog missions. These projects often serve as the basis for master's, engineer's, and doctoral theses, and they explore various high-risk hypotheses. Some of the scientific projects conducted during AATC's analog missions include:
- VIS/NIR Reflectance and Fluorescence Spectrometric Studies: AATC conducts studies of minerals, water, organics, and biomarkers in Moon and Mars analogue samples using visible/near-infrared (VIS/NIR) spectrometry.
- Bacterial Cellulose for Space Clothing Production: Research focuses on using kombucha microbial consortium to produce bacterial cellulose for clothing in space.
- Hydrogel Bacterial Cellulose: This project explores the use of hydrogel bacterial cellulose for eco-friendly textiles.
- Cardiorespiratory Profiling: A doctoral thesis project involves profiling cardiorespiratory responses during simulated lunar missions using impedance pneumography.
- Circadian Clock and Time Perception: AATC develops an open-source application for analyzing induced time perception in humans as it relates to the circadian clock.
- Sunlight Simulator for Isolated Spaces: Research focuses on developing a sunlight simulator lighting system for use in isolated environments.

Training activities[edit | edit source]
In addition to analog missions, AATC offers a diverse range of practical training activities related to commercial astronautics and space tourism. These activities include:
- Stratospheric Missions: Participants experience near-space conditions through stratospheric missions.
- Rocket Workshops: Collaborating with the Polish Rocket Society, AATC provides workshops on rocketry.
- Underwater EVAs: Neutral buoyancy training allows participants to simulate extravehicular activities (EVAs) underwater.
- Diving: AATC offers diving training for individuals interested in underwater activities.
- Survival: Specialized survival training, including open sea survival and Helicopter Underwater Escape Training (HUET), is available in collaboration with the Marine School.
- Human Centrifuge Training: Training includes simulating space flight conditions with a human centrifuge.
- Hyperbaric Training: In collaboration with the Military University of Aviation Medicine, AATC offers hyperbaric training.
These training activities aim to provide experiences similar to real astronaut training, and the availability of professional facilities and equipment in Poland makes these opportunities accessible to a wide range of individuals.
